Sloughi Reunion at Bath Cats and Dogs Home Annual Show
2 September 2007

Troy

It's that time of year again.  The first Sunday in September, time for the main annual fund raising event of the year for Bath Cat and Dogs Home!  As usual, the pressure was on the weather to make a good appearance, and today the sun shone.  There was the various array of stalls, the ever popular auction, seminars and talks, stalls etc, and financially the day was a huge success with record profits being achieved.

Victoria, a week from her 13th Birthday

However, this was a more special event than usual - not just because it was Charlie's 11th birthday - but because some members of the Sloughi group were present.  Although all of us had been there before, this year was very different, mainly due to our feature on the Telling Tails series shown on HTV in August.

For the first time, people were coming up to us with some knowledge as to what kind of dogs they were - no-one, for instance, asked if they were 'ex-racers'!  Comments ranged from 'are those the sloggy, suggi, suzuki thingy dogs?' through to 'these are those Sloughi dogs off the telly, aren't they?' and every permatation inbetween!

Streaky

The nicest bit was the recognition that the Sloughi breed had from the audience (about 4000 people and about 2000 dogs), and this was backed by the recognition from BCDH - we had our own little parade of 9 rescue Sloughis in the ring!

Twin

It was great to welcome the newer Sloughi owners, and in true Big Brother 'Chiggy' style of naming they were Rill (Rod and Jill) with Troy, and Hen (Helen and Wren) with Busta.  Together with our three and Rachel's three, and the impeccably behaved Twin, we all had a superb day.

A special mention has to go to Rod and Jane (should that be 'Rane'?) with Twin, who has come on literal leaps and bounds since first seeing him in April.  His confidence was sky high, and he was a fantastic demonstration of just how rewarding these Sloughis are.

Finally, a thanks again to BCDH for making the whole thing possible and putting a well-deserved spotlight on this remarkable breed.  See you all next time!
