Mini-Me's Story

MiniMini-Me was taken into rescue in June 2005 at the age of 11.  She had previously been kept locked in a cramped outbuilding and it was thought unlikely she had ever lived in a home environment.  She was immediately rehomed to a lady who had taken in a rescue sloughi previously ( Nancy ).   Like Nancy before her, Mini-Me had to get used to an assortment of other dogs and cats in her new home.    However she took to her new housemates extremely well, again another gentle timid girl who just wanted a safe, quiet, comfortable place to live.

Initially she was more inquisitive than Nancy had been.  She was interested in what was going on around her although everytime she was presented with a new experience she would drop to the ground, shaking and drooling with fear.  However every experience was learned from and she became less timid as the weeks went by.   Eventually she was let off her long line in the back field and she was even brave enough to go and bark at the goat!  Her new owner was very surprised one day a few weeks down the line to see a toy being flung around out in the field.  She had thought only Mini-Me was out the back but assumed that one of her younger dogs had gone out to play.  When she went out to investigate she was thrilled to see that in fact it was Mini-Me who had decided to take the plunge and have a little play!

Mini-Me goes from strength to strength, sadly her legs are not very good and she tires very easily but she adores having her freedom and plays in the back field until dark most days.  Her legs have usually given up on her by that time and she is usually just laying in the grass happy to be in the 'great outdoors' chewing on a toy.  Thankfully she is quite a small sloughi as her owner has to carry her back into the house at night!

Mini

Mini-Me has not been problematic in any way in her new home.  She was clean from the start, in no way destructive at all and is just happy to be in a loving home.  She has amazed her owner in the progress she has made in such a short space of time.   In the right hands, and with some patience and understanding these dogs really are very special indeed.

Addition

Sadly shortly after this piece was written, Mini went into kidney failure.  She was put to sleep on Monday 19 September 2005.  She was only in her new home for 3 months.
