Rescue Sloughi Mini-Reunion
Saturday 14th July 2007
Charcombe Fields - Bath

Earlier in the year, an incredibly unique event happened at Bath Cats and Dogs Home; the first ever reunion of the Rescue Sloughi group. Amazingly, 17 rescued sloughis, their parents and other four-legged siblings met together at the centre where many of them were first taken into rescue. This remarkable event was captured on film by HTV, and a thoroughly enjoyable day was had by all.

On Saturday 14th July, the 'Bath and Bristol' section of the RSC - Rescue Sloughi Club, not Royal Shakespeare Company - arranged another get-together at the popular Charlcombe fields in Bath; partly because we just wanted to, but also to welcome the newest arrival to the group - Busta, formerly Barnaby. A very loose agenda was set - just turn up in the fields from about 10ish!

At first, it seemed as if it could be a disaster. It was hammering down with rain at 9.15am - Arry from Bristol wasn't coming, furniture was being delivered and illness threated other attendance - but everything worked out perfectly in the end; 8 sloughis and 5 canine friends enjoyed a romp in the ridiculously long grass. There was the usual 'hang on, I am five minutes away' and 'where on earth is it?' phone calls, but we all made it!

There were many special moments - and I don't mean Gill falling down a hole - such as seeing Wren, Helen and Busta appearing on the horizon to meet some new friends.

The biggest impact has to be the improvement in all the dogs confidence since the last meeting, especially Twin, Topsy and Effie; it is only with these dogs that have such a nervous disposition that you really get to appreciate the small changes that make such a big difference.
As at the last reunion, everyone chilled and relaxed, and the dogs had a great time. Jan took some more superb photos, many of which will find themselves forever in favourite albums, and the sun shone.

There are two things that always amaze me about these reunions and get-togethers; firstly, how well behaved the dogs are, and it is obvious they enjoy each others' company. I am convinced that they all remember past times and past lives, and have a common unspoken bond between them.
Secondly, is how well the humans get along together! Not that this should be a surprise, but is always amazes me just how 'nice' rescue sloughi owners are..

Here's to the next one.
