Rescue Sloughi Mini-Reunion
Saturday 17th March 2007
Alice Park - Bath

Victoria, Leo, Topsy, Effie, Arrow, TwinThe first Sloughi Party in the Park!!  As everyone knows, the terrible cruelty case in Bath a couple of years ago involved many Sloughis.  Anyone who is lucky enough to have rehomed one, two or even three of these beautiful, aloof, frightened sighthounds knows some of the history and the awful lives that they led, and we cannot fail to be touched by their sorry story.  As a result, we find ourselves drawn together from a myriad of backgrounds all linked by our love of these very special animals.

Victoria meets her daughter Effie

So we decided to get some of us together, and hopefully many more in the future, as our dogs  are all finding love and affection in many homes around the country; slowly coming out of their respective shells and starting to enjoy life, whatever their age.

Arrow and Leo
This first meeting, the first of many we hope, took place in Alice Park in Bath, a couple of miles from Bath Cats and Dogs Home where many found their first taste of freedom.  Based in Bath, Leo and Victoria (together with honorary Sloughi (really a Lurcher) Suma!) met up with Rachel's trio Effie, Arry and Topsy (and obligatory Jack Russell) who had travelled from Bristol to join the party.  About half an hour later, the stunning Twin arrived with parents Jane and Ron, and daughter Rachel - seems you have to have a Rachel in the family to get a Sloughi!

Everyone chatted and got on very well, and although many of the dogs were a bit nervous to begin with - and Suma barked continuously - it was a great meeting and most worthwhile; even lounge-lizard Leo paid more attention to his offspring than was expected!

The whole event was captured perfectly on camera by our own David Bailey - Jan, whose magical touch behind the lens has given us dozens of superb photographs to treasure for many years, some of which are below.

The next get together for all rescue Sloughi owners - and anybody else for that matter - is April 28th at Bath Cats and Dogs Home, so we hope to see even more Sloughis enjoying their new life on that day!
