Sid's Story
My name is Sid and I am a young Sloughi Hound who used to live at Bath Cats and Dogs Home until July 2004.
For the first 2 years of my life I hadnt got a proper home and was so frightened of people and I used to worry alot because I couldnt hear anything. Then I was collected and taken to Bath Dogs Home and things were a lot better for me and I was able to run in the fields and make new friends. I had a special friend called Nicki who used to look after me and I really liked her. I also had a nice man friend who used to take me for walks. I was still very scared most of the time and it was hard for me when people used to walk past my kennel and look at me - I used to walk round and round to make myself dizzy so I couldnt see them. A year went by and some people came to see me with a strange looking dog who wore a 'hat'. We played OK together but I was wary of the people.

One day Nicki gave me a tablet that made me sleep, and I was taken in a car by this couple to a new place, and there waiting for me was the dog with the hat!!! I had a good sniff round first and was given my dinner by these people. There was what I now know to be a settee and I soon claimed this for my own. I found that it was very nice to sit on the knee of this lady, and I do this every time now she sits on my settee. This is mainly when I get the cuddles and my ears scratched.
Well it's been 6 months now and I am very happy in my new home. I like the bed upstairs, when the Afghan Hound lets me on it and I like the garden, the settee, my fluffy bed and I have so many toys!! I know where the boneo's are kept and I can reach up to the counter and get the bowl off where my dinner is soaking. There's this little teddy on the dresser in the bedroom that I'm partial to but my mum keeps taking this off me and now she's bought me another fluffy bear of my own - I have 3 now! Then there's this purple fluffy cushion on the bed - I creep up there to get it when I can but she always knows when I've had it because I can't get the bits of purple fur out of my teeth quick enough!

I get my own back though because every time she mops the kitchen floor I run all over it for her. I've stopped all the weeing in the kitchen as I think my mum didn't like me to wee indoors, now I do everything when we go out in the car to the fields and in the garden. I rather love going in the car because I know where we are going, off to meet my mates the Labradors, they play with me and I have a good run every morning, whilst Storm the Affie stays on his lead.
I have deformed knee joints which my vet says could be due to breaks that werent treated properly at the time or from being kept in a confined space. They dont stop me running though, and I have so much fun now. I am 95% deaf but I'm very good for my mum and I never run away too far from her. I'm not frightened of the telly anymore or the patio doors - just of the dark, but I think that just like the weight I've put on I will get used to it.

Sometimes we go and visit my brother Ceaser in Bath Cats and Dogs Home, we have lots of fun together, I hope he might be able to come and live with us one day if he doesnt find another home soon.
