Streaky (Kamet Freya)

Streaky at Bath

..I think it's alright now.  Yes, I know it is.  It has been a whirlwind six months for me.  Before I tell you about how good it is, let me give you some history.  I remember going to Bath rescue, and then being taken to Southampton, and then ending up in Stubbington Rescue for six months.  Six months!  It felt like a lifetime and although Steve, the man who looked after me, was very nice, it wasn't a home.  Ok, I was a bit jumpy - well, can you blame me?  And maybe because I was scared and didn't want to socialise with people they didn't notice me, but it wasn't very nice.  And I tried so hard!  Whenever other dogs would come I just wanted to play!  Maybe a bit over the top, but nothing serious!

Then in February Steve came and dragged me out of my kennel, and we go into the play compound.  I couldn't believe my eyes.  Three dogs to play with!  I went over to the black one first, he seemed like fun, and I chased him about.  He was a bit shocked - the other two didn't seem to do much - but we had a good play.

I thought I really should say hello to the other two, and, well, I dunno, they seemed to smell familiar, especially the old lady. She seemed very pleased to see me.  The old boy didn't seem that impressed though, but anyway, I was in heaven; some loving sniffs from the old lady and a good run with the black boy.  I just assumed that they would be off, and i would go back to the kennel, but no - this was different.  Everyone went onto leads, including me!  Steve gave me a big cuddle and I went into the back of a vehicle with my three new friends!

Streaky on the beach

We had a massive journey, it seemed to take for hours, and I just settled down quietly.  This could be it - a new home with this lot!  Eventually we arrived and everyone jumped , and, although I was very very nervous, I just knew that this was my new home.  I thought the best thing to do was just lie still on the comfy sofa and not be any trouble to anyone.

For the first few days my mum had to bring the water bowl over to me to drink - I was very scared of going into the kitchen, and maybe if I got off the sofa for too long it might not be there when I came back.  And the old boy would didn't say much seemed to stay on the sofa too, so that seemed okay.  Then, little by little, with my daily walks with my new friends, I realised that everything was going to be alright.  And look at me now!

Streaky and Suma

Me and Suma (that's the black boy with the white bit on his tail) go for long runs, looking out for squirrels to chase.  I love to play with a ball, and I especially like to take whatever Suma has got and play with that!  The old lady, Victoria, says that I mustn't worry anymore and everything will be alright.  She's just like a granny to me.  And the old boy?  He's Leo, and quite a character.  He doesn't much like walking, unless we are on holiday, but he will shout at everyone if he can't get his favourite spot on the sofa!

Usually I will cuddle up to Victoria in the evenings, and at night time me, Vicky and Leo snuggle together.  We really are one big happy family, and I feel safe and secure with everyone around me!
