Topsy's Story (Kamet Koo)

Topsy at BathTopsy came to live with us at the same time as Arrow .  She has been a little sweetheart from the beginning.  It took her a couple of days to find her feet and settle in.  She has always been confident and hasn't been any trouble apart from being hard to housetrain.  Arrow and Topsy go through fazes when they pee on the floor so I have to put down plastic sheeting on the carpet when we are out of the house for more than a couple of hours.

She is the biggest sweetie though.  She has only got her 2 canine teeth on the bottom jaw (apart from a row of tiny little ones that run between them).  She had lost all her other teeth by the age of 5 years old as they were all rotten.  She has got the softest little ears and walks like a little show horse.  She cuddles right up to you and believe me, if she could talk, she would.  She has a conversation with you when you talk to her and she's just a little sweetheart without a nasty bone in her body.

When Effie or Arry go to step on or over her, she growls and shows her gums.  She sounds really aggressive and goes to snap at them.  When we first had her I was frightened to death to touch her.  I had to put her lead on her collar to take her off the sofa because I was scared she would bite me!

She's a real daddy's girl and taps him if he stops stroking her when they are cuddled on the bed.   I remember the house rules when the Sloughis first came home - there was no way those dogs were going upstairs and definately not on the furniture..........yeah right!!!

Topsy Comes to London - 13 October 2007

Effie, Arry and TopsyToday we got up quite early for a Saturday and mum took us for a walk. Then we got in the car and she said we were going to visit Auntie Caroline in London. I was thrilled to find out that on the way we were also picking up Auntie Ray and Auntie Lauren (especially as Auntie Lauren sat in the back with me and Effie and cuddled us all the way!). We were in the car for quite a long time but we quite like it as we always have lots of soft quilts to lay on. Arry had the boot all to himself (although he did try and come over to the back seat when he thought Auntie Lauren might want to share her sandwich with him). Eventually we got to London. I jumped out of the car, Effie jumped out of the car and then jumped straight back in again as she wasnt sure she liked London, and Arry just laid on his quilt wondering whether he liked London either. I wanted to see what it was all about and so trotted off very happily to the house.

Effie, Topsy, Arry - A Sloughi HeapEventually we all got in, I had an inspection round the kitchen and then decided that I'd launch myself onto Auntie Caroline's lap. She was very happy with this arrangement, schnoogled into my head and told me that I was absolutely gorgeous. Tell me something I dont know!! Effie decided that the new house wasnt too frightening after all as long as she could sit with mum and Arry had a sniff around too and said hello to the other dogs. Oscar the Sloughi lives at this house with Jack and Jake the Lurchers, I quite liked them but prefer to be made a fuss of by the humans. It is what they are here for after all, to worship me!

Effie, Topsy, ArryThen we went to somewhere called Hampstead Heath. It was very exciting, there were lots of woods to explore and fields to have a potter around. I lead the way as I am so brave and utterly fantastic. Effie quite liked it too, and everyone remarked on how much more confident she seemed these days. Arry was also a very good boy. Sometimes he doesnt like other dogs very much but on Hampstead Heath he liked everyone and even found one dog he played with for a while. Sometimes he ran into the bushes and mum had to go and retrieve him, I just walked ahead with the others as I know that they will never be far away and would never leave me behind - why would they when I'm such a special girl?!

Effie, Topsy, ArryAfter a long walk we went back to the house again, and while the humans had lunch, Effie, Arry and me got into our usual 'Sloughi Heap' on one of the dog beds. Sometimes I have to shout at them if they stand on me, I am very fierce when I bare my two teeth at them. After a snooze it was time to go home again. I must say I enjoyed my trip to London, I had lots of cuddles and attention all day. Arry and Effie liked it too although I think they were glad to get back in the car to go home again. As nice as day trips out are, there is nothing quite like your own sofa to snooze on when you're a Sloughi....
